Puppies go through a critical socialization period between the ages of 8 weeks- 16 weeks. During this time it is important to expose them in a safe and positive manner to things in life to help set them up for success mentally and emotionally. This will help them in future training and how they see the world. A negative experience with something in this period could affect your puppy for the rest of its life. For example, if a puppy has a bad experience with nail trims at this age they could have a fear of nail trims that can be very difficult to get over as they age.
Here at Focus Forward Dog Training, our experience in raising Service Dogs is used to create programs designed to give your puppy confidence, strong foundational training, and positive exposure to the world. Our programs will give your puppy a headstart and set them up for success in future training and help lead to your puppy becoming an adult dog who is trained, well-mannered, and confident in life.
Focus Forward Dog Training has created the ultimate puppy training program. For puppies 8 weeks- 6 months of age. We focus on exposure and socialization as well as a solid obedience foundation, created from our experience raising service dogs. Puppies are exposed to a variety of things from different surfaces and textures to different sights, sounds, and smells all with positive reinforcement. This includes field trips to parks, pet-friendly patios, stores, and overall exposure to the world. For puppies who are not fully vaccinated they go on their field trips in a puppy sling that allows them to view and experience the world safely. We have several programs to meet your goals.

Puppies aged 8–16 weeks will follow a modified training plan to ensure their learning and socialization are age-appropriate and align with their current vaccination status. To keep them safe during outings, young puppies may be carried instead of walking on the ground, reducing their exposure to potential illnesses while still gaining valuable real-world experience.

Your puppy will head out with a professional trainer 3 days a week for 2 weeks, learning key obedience, confidence, and socialization skills in real-world environments. At the end of each week, you’ll receive a private lesson to learn how to maintain and build on your pup’s progress at home.
